Biodiesel, like all alternative fuels have their pros and cons. If you look at the time vs cost angle, it may not be a wise decision. If availability of diesel fuel in general was a problem, then the pressure to make biodiesel on your own would be greater. On the other hand, diesel is expensive, but there seems to be no real shortage as of now. Think about how much fuel you could buy with the time you spend making it. Or, the money needed to buy equipment and raw materials to produce biodiesel.

Sure, some raw materials are free, but are they really? First, you need to find sources, get the equipment together, the place, then the time. All these things should be considered. This research guide can help you make the decision. Newbiodiesel.

One good thing about biodiesel, it takes less energy and processing than other methods needed for our gasoline powered cars. My car has a 350 fuel injected engine. Around town it gets about 17 MPG. On the freeway it jumps up to 24 MPG. When I think about what it would cost to purchase a more "fuel effecient" car I think, boy I could sure buy a lot of fuel for that amount of money. Further, I plan to add some enhancements to my gas engine soon in effort to boost economy. Which will not include some of these rediculous "driving techniques" that are guaranteed to irritate eveyone behind me.

Thinking of raw materials, you should really do your homework before you endeavor to make your own Biodiesel.
